A $5.7 million upgrade of the Davis and Dohertys Road intersection in Tarneit will commence in coming weeks after Wyndham City awarded the construction contract at a Council meeting last night.
The Wyndham City project includes a full reconstruction of the Davis and Dohertys Road intersection with traffic lights and sealed shoulders to improve road safety for drivers, make the road smoother and provide a more enjoyable journey.
Work also includes the reconstruction of Davis Road south of the intersection up to Twyford Way, and reconstruction of Davis Road north of the intersection up to Tarnala Road.
Other improvements include public lighting, a footpath, bicycle lane and drainage works.
The Davis and Dohertys Road intersection will be closed to traffic throughout the duration of works, which will fast-track delivery of the project and reduce the project cost.
Wyndham City Mayor, Councillor Susan McIntyre, said the upgrade would enhance safety at this intersection and accommodate growing traffic needs in this part of Tarneit.
“Reducing traffic congestion and improving the safety of our local roads is one of the most important issues facing our community,” Cr McIntyre said.
“These works align with Wyndham City’s Road Safety Strategy 2022-2032 and demonstrate our commitment to building infrastructure our growing community needs.”
“This project follows a recent $1 million upgrade of the Boundary and Davis Road intersection in Mount Cottrell, which included pavement widening and resurfacing, line marking, signage improvements and road drainage works.”
Work on the Davis and Dohertys Road intersection upgrade is expected to completed by late 2023.
