Edward River Council is proud to support the work of volunteers in the region and is working with the Deniliquin Mental Health Awareness Group and U3A on their expo event at the Deniliquin Town Hall on May 17, 2023 from 10.00am – 2.00pm.
The event forms part of a series of events and initiatives the Deniliquin Mental Health Awareness Group (Deni MHAG) plans to bring to the community this year, after receiving NSW Government Funding from the Covid-19 Community Connection and Wellbeing Program funding.
‘This event forms part of the 5 ways to Wellbeing Initiative BE ACTIVE, CONNECT, KEEP LEARNING, HELP OTHERS AND BE AWARE. Volunteering is an evidence-based action that supports our health and wellbeing, and we want to encourage as many people as possible in our community to experience the benefit of volunteering’, Lourene Liebenberg from Deni MHAG said.
The program starts at 10.00 am with a welcome address by Mayor Peta Betts, followed by a short wellbeing talk. Every 45 minutes there will be short talks by various service and volunteer groups. The short talk program schedule includes, 10.45 am Service Groups and Charities; 11.30 am Health Groups; 12.15pm Interest Groups who rely on volunteers; 1.00 pm Edward River Council, followed by Emergency Services who rely on volunteers.
‘As a community we are in debt to our wonderful volunteers who support the many community programs in the region and I was privileged to work alongside volunteers during the flood events sandbagging and sharing the task to protect the community from flood damage’, said Mayor Peta Betts.
‘We look forward to attending the event with Deni MHAG to meet community members and provide information to those who may be considering volunteering as an option to support our community’, she said.
All members of the community are welcome to attend, and a giant community thank- you card will be available to write appreciation messages to favourite volunteers and volunteer groups. The card will also be available to sign at the Deniliquin Library, leading up to the event.
