The Edward River Local Government Area has been allocated a further $1.3m through the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund Round 5.
Community Groups, Joint organisations and the Local Aboriginal Land Council were eligible to apply with Edward River Council being allocated $939,886 to implement the Peppin Heritage Centre Master Plan and to create a regional theatre and performance space at the newly refurbished Town Hall.
Funding received for the Town Hall will enable the commencement of the communities’ vision of it becoming a regional theatre and performance space with the installation of performance and ticketing infrastructure that will activate operations, support touring performances, audience participation in the arts and provide space for community functions and events.
The Peppin Heritage Centre Masterplan includes improvements to exhibition technology and display cabinets, design works and interpretive panels, landscaping, external paving and signage.
Edward River Council Mayor Cr Peta Betts said “this is so exciting for the Edward River Region with the ability to not only create a regional theatre and performance space, visitors and residents will also be able to immerse themselves in the heritage of our area”.
“With thanks to NSW Government funding other community organisations were also successful including the Deniliquin Rams Football and Netball Club and the Deni Rovers Football and Netball Club.
“It is wonderful to see these Clubs applying for and receiving funding to make improvements to their sporting facilities”.
Deputy Premier and Minister for Regional NSW Paul Toole said the Stronger Country Communities Fund is helping to enrich the lives of residents in regional communities.
“Everywhere I go, people tell me about the big difference the Stronger Country Communities Fund projects make to everyday life, whether it’s a new skate park that kids love, a new community hall, upgrades to the main street or programs that make living in the regions even better,” Mr Toole said.
“The $660 million Stronger Country Communities Fund is already making a real difference to
people right across regional NSW, with work commencing, underway or completed on more than 2,530 projects in every local government area across regional NSW.
“The NSW Government is focused on delivering infrastructure and programs in regional NSW necessary for stimulating economies, and we’re backing local projects that make a positive difference to the communities in the bush and surrounding areas.”
