The adoption of Gannawarra Shire Council’s 2023/2024 Budget was the highlight of Gannawarra Shire Council’s June 2023 meeting, held at the Kerang Senior Citizens Centre on 28 June 2023.
Council’s key annual financial document outlines how Council will spend the $65.606 million of revenue generated through rates, charges and grants during 2023/2024, with a $30.298 million operating surplus predicted.
The 2023/2024 Budget includes a $38.691 million capital works program, with $25 million devoted to repairing flood-damaged infrastructure.
Meanwhile, the results of the 2023 Community Satisfaction Survey for Gannawarra Shire Council were also noted at the meeting. Conducted in February and March 2023, the survey found that Council’s overall performance has not changed from the 2022 survey, whilst improvements have occurred in categories relating to consultation/engagement, lobbying and community decisions. However, responses relating to sealed local road maintenance and enforcement of local laws have declined compared to the 2022 survey.
Other outcomes of the meeting included:
Receiving and noting the summary of the discussions of the Audit and Risk Committee meeting held 9 May 2023; Endorsing the following reviewed policies: Policy No. 092 – Councillor Allowances and Support; and Policy No. 107 – Public Interest Disclosure; and Lay on the table a planning permit application for the use and development of land at Macorna North for a 2,000 standard cattle unit beef cattle feedlot, with a decision to be made at the July 2023 Council Meeting.Council also confirmed that it would cease the delivery of Community Care services by 31 October 2023, however will extend services beyond this date where clients have not been successfully transitioned to another service provider. Council will keep clients, volunteers and staff updated regarding these changes.
