Major drainage and repair work will start on Left Bank Road near Mullumbimby on 10 July.
The project, which has a budget of $1.58 million, is funded under the NSW Government’s Fixing Local Roads Program.
In March this year the Federal Government announced it would fund repairs on Left Bank Road, which has deteriorated significantly since the floods last year.
Left Bank Road is a narrow, dead-end road and the focus of work will be on 2.9km stretching from Frasers Road to the end.
It is expected the work will take approximately six weeks to finish and during that time residents can expect some traffic delays, as well as some construction noise.
Phil Holloway, Director Infrastructure Services, said this work will involve heavy patching, resealing and the installation of curb and guttering on some sections of the road.
“We have applied for natural disaster funding from the NSW Government for the reconstruction of culverts, causeways and drainage infrastructure and are waiting for that application to be approved,” Mr Holloway said.
“The work that starts next month is designed to make daily life easier for the people living in the 50 properties on Left Bank Road, as well as those going to and from the Shearwater Steiner School,” he said.
“It will also improve the response times for the Rural Fire Service, SES, police, and ambulance.
“We acknowledge the poor condition of the road at the moment and if the weather plays its part, getting to and from home, work and school will be much easier by the end of August,” Mr Holloway said.
