Byron Shire Council (Council) is calling on artists, creatives, and the broader community to comment on the Draft Arts and Culture Action Plan.
Melitta Firth, Council’s Arts and Culture Officer, said the draft plan will guide Council’s involvement and investment in arts and cultural activities in the Byron Shire for the next three years.
“The draft actions included in the plan have been developed through consultation and workshopped with industry stakeholders. It is now time for the broader industry and community to provide their input into what they would like the creative future of the Byron Shire to look like,” Ms Firth said.
Initial consultation has identified four key priorities, these include:
1. Acknowledging and celebrating Aboriginal voices and stories.
2. Supporting arts and cultural activity, participation, and creative experiences for the whole community.
3. Fostering a resilient creative sector committed to climate consciousness and ecological sustainability.
4. Nurturing, amplifying, and supporting our makers, artists, and communities.
“We want to make sure we’ve got the plan right and that it reflects the aspirations of our diverse and colourful community,” Ms Firth said.
“You have until 28 July to review the plan and provide your feedback,” Ms Firth said.
