Get planting on National Tree Day

Published on 14 July 2023

Get ready to roll up your sleeves and make a positive impact on the environment as the Benalla community comes together to plant trees for a greener future.

National Tree Day is Australia’s largest tree planting event and Benalla Rural City Council is inviting people to take part in a community planting along the Hollands Creek Bio-link Channel on Sunday 30 July from 11am to 1pm.

National Tree Day is an annual initiative of Planet Ark, that provides an opportunity for people of all ages to get involved and reconnect with nature, while helping to protect and enhance our natural environment.

Benalla Rural City Council Mayor Cr Bernie Hearn, is encouraging the community to get involved with the planting and help revegetate the Hollands Creek Bio-link Channel area by increasing native habitat along channel.

‘By participating in National Tree Planting Day you’ll have the opportunity to learn about the importance of trees, their role in the environment, and how they benefit our local ecosystem,’ Cr Hearn said.

‘It’s a great opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals, I encourage everyone to come along and take part,’ she said.
