An ambitious Lego design that reimagines Fremantle’s iconic container cranes as water slides, roller coasters and a giant swing has been voted most popular design on this year’s Freo Builds Trail.
Hilton Primary School student Jack Perkins, who is in year 4, said his winning Crane World design was inspired by his dad’s work.
“My dad works on the cranes, so I’d love to be able to join the fun,” Jack, 9, said.
Jacks’ design, which was on display at the Maritime Museum during the July school holidays, also included shipping containers turned into food vans, games and an indoor fun park.
Jack has won the “Ultimate Kids' Excursion to Fremantle” for his whole class which includes a Fremantle Prison Tour, Cicerello’s aquarium tour and lunch, and a round of crazy golf at Holey Moley.
His winning design is also on temporary display at Hilton Primary School for the other students to admire.
This year’s Freo Builds Trail asked primary school students to reimagine what six iconic Fremantle locations could become in 50 years’ time.
A panel of judges selected six winning designs that were then made from Lego and displayed at “secret” locations throughout Fremantle as part of the Freo Builds Trail.
The trail guided families around Fremantle during the July school holidays to discover the creative and colourful ways Lego builders had transformed the children’s imaginative ideas into 3D models.
After completing the trail, the participants received a free Lego toy supplied by Lego.
The Freo Builds Trail is proudly presented by the City of Fremantle |THIS IS FREMANTLE, Toyworld Fremantle, FOMO, Fremantle Fishing Boat Harbour, WA Maritime Museum, Fremantle Prison and Fremantle Markets.
