Community shares in grants

Published on 28 July 2023

Ninety-four community and individual projects will share over $215,000 from Corangamite Shire Council’s 2023-2024 grants program.

Funding from Community Grants, Enabling Grants, Facility Grants, Environment Support Grants and Events and Festivals Grants programs was allocated at the July Council meeting last night.

Mayor Ruth Gstrein said allocating funding through the grants programs was an annual highlight for Council.

“It gives Council a real insight into what our volunteer groups need and it’s one of the most valuable ways we can support our communities,” Cr Gstrein said.

“It’s really terrific that so many people in our community are proactive about such a wide range of projects that reinforce the social fabric of our Shire and make it a great place to live.

“I look forward to seeing lots of these projects roll out over the next year,” she said.

The Community Grants Program offers up to $2,000 towards community activities and events including workshops and equipment purchases, planning activities and the development of new community, leisure, cultural or recreational programs. Thirty-six successful applicants received a combined $58,618.

The Facility Grants Program offers up to $2,000 (on a dollar-for-dollar basis) to committees and clubs or organisations whose primary function in the Shire is to help with facility improvements or equipment. Twenty-three successful applicants received a combined $41,157.38.

The Enabling Grants Program offers up to $5,000 to assist community groups to develop ‘shovel-ready projects’. These grants can pay for business case preparation, scoping, community consultation, plans and drawings, permits and approvals or engagement of professional grant-writing or other assistance to secure project funding. Four successful applicants received a combined $20,000.

The Environment Support Grants Program offers up to $3,000 (on a dollar-for-dollar basis) for environment and sustainability projects, including installation of energy and water saving items at community facilities. Twenty successful applicants received a combined $46,526.

The Events and Festivals Grants Program offers up to $15,000, made up of a maximum of $10,000 grant funding and a maximum of $5,000 of in-kind support. It is intended for bigger events that increase visitation and stimulate economic activity in the Shire. Twelve successful applicants received a combined $41,000 funding and $15,260 in-kind support.
