The Town of Cambridge is proud to support local artists by showcasing their works in exclusive exhibitions at The Boulevard Centre, Floreat.

Inspired by the outdoors, nature, and wildlife, Laura Fergusson has always loved painting birds because of their uniqueness and personality.

"I can’t get bored because there’s always a different species to observe, which can be detailed and challenging to paint," she said.

"I feel the birds I’ve sketched and painted over the years reflect my love of being outdoors and free, away from daily housework and parent responsibilities. Whether it’s 30 minutes or an hour a day, I have found that time valuable and inspiring.

"As an introvert during COVID lockdown, I really relished in that time to create. Whilst walking with my dog, I started noticing red-tailed black cockatoos in my neighbourhood, and knew I wanted to paint them.

"I’m from the southwest of England, and although I love the birds there and have painted them previously, there's something about Australia’s birds that's intriguing."

Laura Fergusson's bird series exhibition is open for viewing weekdays from 9am to 4pm in centre's gallery until 31 August.
