Council invites exceptional athletes in the Region to be nominated for the North Queensland Sportstar Awards being held on Saturday, 4 November 2023 and hosted by Mackay Regional Council.

For 32 years, the Awards have been instrumental in acknowledging the remarkable accomplishments of regional North Queensland athletes in our sporting communities.

The Sportstar Awards recognise the achievements of North Queensland’s elite athletes and sports administrators and are the highest level of regional recognition for all nominees and a celebration of sports across North Queensland.

Councillor Kate Hastie, whose portfolio includes sport and recreation, said this is an excellent opportunity to acknowledge the North's top athletes.

“The Awards night is a wonderful chance to honour local athletes' excellence in their sport and acknowledge dedicated volunteers working behind the scenes.

“Nominations for the Awards are accepted from local government areas covered by the North Queensland Sports Foundation (NQSF), spanning from the Torres Strait Islands in the north to Mount Isa in the west and south to this year's hosts, Mackay,” said Cr Hastie.

This year’s awards will take place at the Mackay Entertainment & Convention Centre, where all finalists will be showcased, with winners and runners-up announced on the night.

Now is the chance to shine the light on some of our outstanding local athletes and sports administrators by nominating them for an Award.

“Sport plays a big role in our Region and we have some amazing locals that are achieving some great things and this is the perfect opportunity to have them recognised for their efforts,” continued Cr Hastie.
