AUSTRALIA’S PREMIER SATIRICAL ART EXHIBITION HITS DENILIQUIN!

Get ready to embrace the lighter side of art and celebrate the larrikin Australian spirit as The Bald Archy Prize arrives in Deniliquin. This renowned satirical art prize, judged by none other than Professor Maude Cockatoo, the world’s only avian art critic, promises an exhibition like no other, brimming with portraits that will stimulate your mind, create conversations and most importantly make you laugh!

In its 27th year, The Bald Archy Prize has become an iconic event in Australia’s cultural calendar, showcasing the incredible talents of artists who dare to push boundaries, employ wit and poke fun at the world around us. The awards focus on caricature style portraits of prominent figures, both local and international, earning a reputation for humour, irreverence and creative brilliance.

Edward River Council’s Mayor Cr Peta Betts said Council was thrilled to have The Bald Archy exhibition back after four years.

“Edward River is known for its creativity, and country people have a fantastic sense of humour, so this is a perfect fit for our town. On its last tour in 2019 The Bald Archy was very popular and attracted visitors from around the region. We are looking forward to welcoming them back again for this unique exhibition.”

The exhibition features 22 finalists, including Sharyn Jones with Abra-Cad-Albo; Judy Nadin’s Wednesday's Child is Full of Woe, and the popular “Sandwich Bag Dad” Dave Blumenthal with his portrait of Amish Blake. And taking centre stage is the winner Marty Steel with his portrait of The Bald Archy’s late founder, Peter Batey.

Cr Betts said The Bald Archy Prize exhibition promised to be an engaging and memorable experience.

“We are encouraging all visitors over the next four weeks to vote for Deniliquin’s favourite painting. We would love viewers of all ages to participate and it’s a great way to engage the whole family in a fun activity.”

Whether you are an art enthusiast or simply someone looking to have a good time, the collection of satirical masterpieces will leave you amused, inspired and engaged.
