Noojee community invited to join project working groups

Published on 08 August 2023

Following extensive initial engagement with residents, business owners and community members, the Shaping the Future of Noojee project is now seeking expressions of interest from members of the public to join project working groups aimed at addressing community-identified areas of priority.

Over the past 12 months, Baw Baw Shire Council and the Victorian Government has been working closely with the communities of Noojee and the surrounding towns of Piedmont, Loch Valley, Toorongo, Vesper, Icy Creek and Tanjil Bren, to undertake long-term planning and investigate opportunities for economic growth in the region.

Following the release of the Noojee and District Context Analysis Report in May, workshops were held with the community in July to explore the identified opportunities. The results of the workshops were shared with the community at a project update event on Sunday 30 July at Noojee Community Hall.

Five opportunities have been identified to support sustainable economic development, job creation and social and economic prosperity in Noojee and the surrounding towns:

Eco Tourism   Specialised Agricultural Industry Development   Power and Connectivity Reliability   Multipurpose Community Hub and Education Centre   Ethical Hunting and Game Processing

To explore these opportunities further, a working group will be created for each of the five opportunities. The working groups will include representation from the Noojee and District community, local businesses, industry specialists, education and research organisations and government representatives.

Members of the group will meet monthly beginning in September to refine the concepts, obtain feedback from the community and relevant subject matter experts, and identify appropriate collaboration and funding opportunities.

To be a part of this exciting project, you can submit an expression of interest to join the working groups by visiting the short link on Council’s website. Applications will remain open until Sunday 27 August 2023.

“Community is at the heart of this project, and we need your valuable insight and input throughout all stages,” says Mayor of Baw Baw Shire Annemarie McCabe.

“It has been fantastic to see how open and involved the people of Noojee and surrounding towns have been so far. We are looking forward to seeing the momentum they have gathered to carry this project further.”

“I encourage all interested residents to put your hand up to join in these pivotal working groups, provide your input and help be part of seeking the best, long term outcomes for your community”.
