Demolition of the old South Beach change rooms has begun ahead of the construction of the new change rooms and landscaping.
The works are expected to take several weeks and there will be intermittent road closures in the area during the demolition works.
New temporary toilets, including those for disabled access, are being installed just north of the café.
The toilets were installed in consultation with the South Beach Café owner.
The new toilets have been installed in the car park to allow access to existing sewerage infrastructure and to be clear of the construction site.
The tender for construction of the new change rooms is progressing to be put to the market in the coming months.
Forward works were also carried out to ensure the water supply to the foreshore showers was not affected by the demolition and construction works.
The temporary change rooms, which had been located just south of the old change rooms so they could be plumbed into the existing infrastructure, will be removed as works progress.
Comments attributed to Fremantle Mayor Hannah Fitzhardinge:
“The demolition works will bring us one step closer to the construction of a new change room facility that will be modern, sustainable, and an asset for generations of beach users.
“The associated landscaping will also make a big difference to the area and thanks to a Changing Places grant we will have improved facilities for people with disability.
“Thank you to the community for your ongoing patience as the works are carried out.”
