Council has recently purchased the Springsure kindergarten building and land from the Springsure Community Kindergarten Inc (SCKI).
As a secure and insulated building, the kindergarten will be used to house the collection from the Springsure Hospital Museum while the museum is being renovated.
After unsuccessful attempts to source alternative providers for a kindergarten or childcare centre, SCKI approached council to purchase the building so they could finalise their business. The building and land were purchased for $50,000 and SCKI has already donated these funds to Springsure organisations focusing on early childhood education or activities.
Acting General Manager Communities, Leisa Donlan said purchasing this building relieves SCKI from the burden of disposing the building and solves a problem for council on another local project.
‘Council will now be able to cover the purchase cost by not having to pay rent for storing the collection from the Springsure Hospital Museum,’ Ms Donlan continued.
‘The heritage architect on the project was particularly keen the collection stays in Springsure to minimise the risk of damage,’ she said.
‘It’s really a win-win situation for both parties.’
Once the Springsure Hospital Museum is renovated and the collection is reinstalled, council plans to further consult with the local community to decide its future.
