City of Rockingham electors interested in running as a candidate in the 2023 City of Rockingham Elections are invited to attend a Candidate Information Session, to be held on Thursday 24 August from 6pm at the City’s Administration Building on Civic Boulevard.
The Candidate Information Session will provide prospective candidates with information on the electoral process and the roles and responsibilities of being an elected member.
Local Government elections are held every two years on the third Saturday of October, with the 2023 elections to be held on Saturday 21 October. Elections are conducted by the Western Australian Electoral Commission (WAEC) and are held as a postal election.
This year there will be six councillor positions across all of the City’s wards up for election. All eligible electors will receive voting papers in the mail for their respective ward about three weeks before the election. Enrolments for the electoral roll close on Friday 25 August.
Nominations for candidates will be open from Thursday 31 August – Thursday 7 September 2023. Optional preferential voting will be used, which is similar to State and Federal elections and is a change from the first-past-the-post system used previously.
Please note that due to the use of optional preferential voting, the vote count may take longer than in previous years.
Voting is not compulsory in Local Government elections but community members are encouraged to make their vote count and have their say.
