On Tuesday 8 August, the Emerald Airport’s ‘High Fly Café’ turned one.
Mayor Kerry Hayes was accompanied by Kirsty Bentley Supervisor Airport Kiosk, and her café staff to hand out cupcakes to travellers in the departure lounge before their flight.
‘For these guests, it’s just another day, but for us it’s a special milestone’, Mayor Hayes said.
He praised the staff for their dedication to the efficient and effective operation of the facility in its first year.
‘The way the café is run is a credit to its staff and to council as a whole’ he continued.
After several unsuccessful attempts to find a vendor to operate the airport café, council passed a resolution that the service should be provided by council, with council staff.
Council believes the café is an important feature at the ‘doorstep’ to the Central Highlands and benefits the 200,000 people who use the terminal each year.
Whether you’re coming or going, grabbing a coffee and a snack at the airport is a critical purchase for any traveller!
