Council Meeting Wrap - August 2023

The adoption of the Gannawarra Urban Growth Strategy, which will guide future development in the municipality, was the highlight of Gannawarra Shire Council’s August 2023 meeting.

Held at the Kerang Senior Citizens Centre on 16 August 2023, the meeting was the first to be held outside of business hours since May 2022.

The major item of discussion at the meeting was the Gannawarra Urban Growth Strategy, which will support future rezoning of residential and industrial land in Cohuna, Kerang, the Kerang Lakes and Koondrook.

Residents were able to provide feedback regarding the draft version of the document between May 2023 and July 2023. Council also consulted with the Cohuna Progress Association, Koondrook Development Committee and the Kerang Lakes Community Development Group on the document.

Meanwhile, residents are encouraged to have their say on proposed changes to Gannawarra Shire Council’s Governance Rules, with feedback accepted up to 5pm Wednesday, 30 August.

Eight changes are proposed, relating to calling Unscheduled Meetings, consideration of Urgent Business, Tabling of Arbiters Decisions, Question Time guidelines and how a petition is processed.

Other outcomes of the meeting included:

Awarding a panel of contractors a tender for Wet and Dry Plant Hire and Minor Civil Works for a three-year period; Receival of a petition requesting to complete repairs to unnamed road connecting Pratt Road to Robertson Road / West Road and undertake grading on an annual basis, with this matter to lay on the table until the September 2023 Council Meeting; and Receival of a report regarding the VNI West project.
