A florist turned graphic design artist has unleashed her talent with a series of artworks on display at WAVES in Wodonga.
Kodi Graham, who is based in Cobram, has always enjoyed a close connection to water and reflects this in her artwork.
“I was a florist before I was an artist, so I am always interested in flowers and just how objects connect us to space.”
Her first artwork focused on the native swamp lily.
“It started with the native swamp lily, which is native to this area and can be found in marshy land or the waterways here in Wodonga,” Kodi said.
“It can also be found up the East Coast as well.”
The middle artwork features pool stairs.
“I was thinking about the other ways we engage with waterways and so I thought of pools,” Kodi said.
“I am an avid swimmer so I enjoy community pools and think they are an important community resource.”
Her last piece features a kayak on a river, drifting in a moment of stillness.
“The kayak kind of melds the two, it’s a man-made object on water and we have so many waterways that you can kayak on which is not possible in other places,” Kodi said.
Kodi designed the artwork digitally and was impressed with how the colours turned out.
“The aqua light blue at the top goes with the building so nicely,” she said.
Kodi was blown away when she saw her artwork on the side of the building for the first time.
“It’s pretty cool to see because it’s probably the same size as me, so it’s amazing to see it at such a large scale,” she said.
“And to think that people are going to see my work as they come here is pretty wild.”
The artwork will be on display for 12 months as part of council’s ephemeral art program.
