Transport for NSW will undertake remediation work on Gasworks Bridge at Macarthur Street, Parramatta between August and December 2023.

The work will include:-

installation of a fully enclosed scaffolding system removal of existing old (lead) paint and application of new protective paint cleaning of the bridge drainage infrastructure concrete and steel repairs to prevent future damage rectification of the bridge timber planks replacement of damaged bridge railing minor trimming of mangroves around the bridge removal of graffiti. Traffic changes and detours  

To safely carry out the bridge repairs, traffic changes and detours will be in place during the work.

Northbound traffic will need to detour via:

George Street, Alfred Street, River Road West, James Ruse Drive, Thomas Street/Victoria Road and then back onto Macarthur Street, or Harris Street, Parkes Street/Hassall Street, James Ruse Drive, Thomas Street/Victoria Road and then back onto Macarthur Street.

Southbound traffic will need to detour via:

Victoria Road, Wilde Avenue and back onto George Street.

Public transport, pedestrian and cyclist changes  

There will be bus route and ferry changes during the work. Please visit Transport NSW website    During bridge closures, the pedestrian walkway on the bridge will also be temporarily closed. Pedestrians and cyclists will need to detour via the Charles Street Weir or Alfred Street Bridge. The walkway will be open at all other times during construction; however, cyclists must first dismount before crossing the bridge. Please allow an additional 10 minutes of travel time.
