You may not have heard of the Mystery Box rally before, but with 2 in 5 people in Australia affected by cancer – chances are you will know someone who has benefited from the money that they have raised.
The Mystery Box rally raises funds for the Cancer Council, to help fund cancer research projects across the country with a high potential to impact those touched by cancer.
Participants aren’t told the route of the rally and are simply instructed to the starting point on day 1, discovering the route on each morning of the journey as the rally rolls on. The cars must be 25+ years old with no 4WD vehicles allowed and a maximum of 2 people in a team. This year, there was a whopping 316 participants.
The rally arrived at Springsure on Saturday 12 August to delightful weather, a beautiful set up, great food and entertainment into the night. You would be hard pressed to find a better venue to unwind at, than at the base of the picturesque Virgin Rock.
It wasn’t long until it was all hands-on deck for the breakfast run, the day’s route briefing and then the crew hit the road once more. It was truly a team effort to get everyone moving, with catering and service from many local clubs and associations.
The rally continued to Aramac on Sunday and wound their way back to Bundaberg for the final stretch.
Congratulations to all involved, council is honoured to have been part of the team that helped such a worthy cause and look forward to the next rally!
