Wyndham City is taking the exciting step of creating greener transport options with three Electric Vehicle (EV) charging stations now operational across Wyndham.

Two new 50kW fast chargers have been installed at the Civic Centre rear car park at 45 Princes Highway in Werribee and are available for both Council staff and the general public to use.

The chargers can charge up to four cars simultaneously and can be used for up to two hours, delivering up to 450km of driving.

There are also three chargers located in Werribee’s city centre on the ground floor of Council’s public car park in the Hunter Building on 22 Synnot Street where parking is available free of charge for the first 3 hours.

The Hunter Building’s 22kW chargers can deliver up to 130km of driving range per hour of charge on average.

Meanwhile, a fast charger is available at Bembit Bag-rook Community Centre in Tarneit, delivering up to 400km of driving per hour of charge.

The Werribee chargers were installed in partnership with the Victorian Government through the Destination Charging Across Victoria Program.

Wyndham City’s Smart Cities portfolio holder Cr Sahana Ramesh said that by providing these EV chargers, Council was supporting the uptake of electric vehicles and the transition to a zero-emission transport sector.

Cr Ramesh said the project also helped to address the significant shortfall of public charging stations in Melbourne’s west and allowed Wyndham’s current and future electric vehicle owners to drive without worrying about range.

“We’re preparing for a wave of change,” Cr Ramesh said.

“We know that in other parts of the world there are EV chargers at regular intervals in city streets supporting drivers who want to shift to renewable energy powered cars.”

“We are providing the technology of the future, that emits no pollution, is more economical and leaves a smaller environmental footprint.”

“Our City has wonderful offerings that attract local and international visitors, the installation of these chargers make it more accessible for electric vehicles.”
