Let's Talk, Freo! reaches nearly 5,000 people
City of Fremantle 24 Aug 2023

The City of Fremantle wishes to thank everyone who participated in the “Let’s Talk, Freo!” public engagement program over the past six months.

Through digital and face-to-face interactions, more than 4,900 people contributed to the City’s new Strategic Community Plan, at more than 40 events across Fremantle.

1,400 separate pieces of feedback were captured through online surveys, written submissions, emails, audio interviews, facilitated panel conversations, articles and videos.

People who live, work and play in Fremantle were encouraged to have their say across a range of important issues affecting the city’s future.

From five-year-olds to 85-year-olds, many of the participants spoke up and publicly shared their thoughts on Fremantle’s future for the first time.

The program concluded with the Weekend of Courageous Conversations in July, which was attended by approximately 200 people at the Fremantle Town Hall.

The six key focus topics were:

Housing affordability also emerged as a major community issue.

City of Fremantle Mayor Hannah Fitzhardinge said the information gathered was vitally important to the city’s future.

“The next step is analysing the data, which will form the basis of the next Strategic Community Plan - providing a blueprint for the City’s priorities, aspirations and expectations over the next 10 years,” said Mayor Fitzhardinge.

“When the draft Plan is ready, we will be seeking public comment, to ensure it remains a truly shared vision for the future.”
