Entries are now open for the City of Rockingham’s 2023 Breakthrough Music Competition, with local aspiring musicians aged 12 – 24 encouraged to enter.
Breakthrough provides talented individuals and groups who can sing or play an instrument with the chance to experience performing in a public place in front of a live audience.
The competition is open to solo artists, duos, trios and bands. Performers will have the chance to win various prizes, including cash prizes and vouchers, as well as the opportunity to network with professionals in the field.
Heats for Breakthrough will be held in November 2023, including a heat at the iconic Channel 7 Rockingham Beach Cup, with the final scheduled for Sunday 26 November at the Rockingham Youth Centre on MacKinnon Street.
City of Rockingham Mayor Deb Hamblin, who has previously served as a judge during Breakthrough finals, encouraged local young people to enter the competition.
“Since Breakthrough began more than a decade ago the competition has given many young people the ability to take their first steps into the professional music industry,” Mayor Hamblin said.
The competition provides great local exposure within the community which can result in additional performance opportunities at future events within the City of Rockingham.“The City gratefully acknowledges our event sponsors including Street Hassle Events, Chop Street Music Productions, Palm Beach Rotary, Stockland Baldivis and Guitar World.”
