The City of Rockingham’s new Strategic Community Plan (SCP) 2023 – 2033 was approved by Council at its ordinary meeting on Tuesday 22 August 2023, with the SCP set to guide the development and direction of the City over the next decade.
The SCP reflects the vision and underlying aspirations of the community for the future. Starting in late 2022 the City consulted with the community to help inform the development of the SCP.
Through a range of workshops, surveys and pop-up consultations at City facilities and events more than 4,600 contributions were received.
The community’s vision for the City is ‘A quality lifestyle. A sustainable future’ and this is supported by five key aspirations:
Social: A family-friendly, safe and connected community.Natural environment: A place of natural beauty where the environment is respected.Built environment: A built environment carefully planned for today and tomorrow.Economic: A vibrant economy creating opportunities. Leadership: Transparent and accountable leadership and governance.Mayor Deb Hamblin thanked community members for their enthusiastic participation during the extensive consultation process.
“Every four years the City does a major review of the SCP and we now have a comprehensive snapshot of the hopes that local residents have for our City over the next 10 years,” Mayor Hamblin said.
What was clear throughout is that community members love the City’s natural environment and enjoy their lifestyle close to beaches and the ocean. They want the beauty of our natural environment to be respected alongside carefully planned developments, and there is a strong focus on being a safe, family-friendly City where everyone can enjoy this relaxed lifestyle.“Our residents see Rockingham as a regional centre where they can work live, live and play. Through the SCP, the City will focus on these aspirations over the coming decade.”
