National Water Week is right around the corner (16-22 October 2023) and council is hosting two art contests for primary-aged and high school-aged children.
The contests aim to inform students of council’s new Water Supply Security Strategy, the soon-to-be-released Demand Management Plan, and council’s commitment as a Reef Guardian Council.
The Junior National Water Week art contest is open to primary school-aged children (4-12 years old), and the high school ‘Eye on the Reef’ poster contest is open to high school-aged children (12-18 years old).
‘I’m really excited to see all the entries come in!’ said General Manager Infrastructure and Utilities Jason Hoolihan.
‘The contest is a great way of educating kids, parents, teachers and the larger community about the importance of being water smart all the time,’ he continued.
‘Regardless of local dam levels, preserving water and caring for our fragile waterways is critical to the prosperity of our natural environment.’
One winner will be selected from each contest and awarded a prize package valued at $200 (junior contest) and $300 (high school contest).
Winners will be announced via Facebook Live on Friday 20 October at 2.00 pm.
