More than $32,000 will be invested into community arts projects within the Charters Towers region through the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) program over the next 12 months.

Councillor Graham Lohmann, whose portfolio includes arts and culture, advised that the RADF partnership between the Queensland Government and Charters Towers Regional Council played a large role in supporting local arts and culture within regional Queensland.

“I encourage locals to start to think about any art or cultural projects that they would like to see within the Charters Towers region.

“If you have an idea for an artistic project, event or activity but aren’t sure how to proceed, let’s have a discussion.

“Our Region has so much history and culture, and it would be great to see this captured in an artistic way,” Cr Lohmann said.

RADF objectives are to provide public value for Queensland communities, build local cultural capacity, cultural innovation and community wellbeing, and to deliver the Queensland Government’s objectives for the community.

Applications are open to both community groups and individuals, with local priorities for 2023-2024 being projects that strengthen communities, share stories and celebrate history, activate local places and spaces, as well as projects that elevate First Nations art.

Councillor Lohmann said that applications for Round 1 funding closing on 9 October 2023.

“We want the community to submit applications for projects that will deliver on the priorities for RADF as well as creating something great for the town,” continued Councillor Lohmann.
