Visitors to benefit from new tourist bus and parking improvements

Visitors will soon find it easier to experience Fremantle, one of Perth’s most frequented destinations.
Following the recent release of the City of Fremantle’s Destination Development Strategic Plan, the City is making improvements to the visitor experience through better integration of wayfinding, access to parking and transportation.
As part of this, the City of Fremantle is currently seeking expressions of interest from experienced transport operators to provide a hop-on hop-off style bus service that takes in all the major tourist attractions.
City of Fremantle Mayor Hannah Fitzhardinge said it was all about ensuring a visit to Fremantle is a positive experience.
“It’s envisaged the bus route will take in popular destinations including Fremantle Prison, Fishing Boat Harbour, Fremantle Markets, WA Maritime Museum, Fremantle Arts Centre and the Passenger Terminal when cruise ships are berthed,” Mayor Fitzhardinge said.
The City is also aiming to improve the user experience of its parking facilities via a tender for an integrated parking system that will provide customers with greater access to information on parking locations, availability, and promotional offers.
“We want a system that helps people identify where they’re going to park before they get here; then find their way from the carpark to their intended destination.
“Whether it’s finding a car park or jumping on a hop-on, hop-off bus to see the City’s sights, the main aim is to make visiting Fremantle as easy as possible.”
The focus on improving Fremantle’s visitor experience also includes a project to refresh the current pedestrian wayfinding system, which will be delivered in partnership with Tourism Western Australia
“Overall, we are focused on delivering improved on-ground visitor infrastructure so that people have a great experience and want to come back,” Mayor Fitzhardinge said.
Parking tender proposals are due by Monday 11 September 2023 while expressions of interest for the bus operator must be received by Tuesday 19 September 2023.
