Get ready to stay up late in Liverpool with an exciting range of free after-dark fun and entertainment heading to Casula Powerhouse from September 2023 to February 2024.
Liverpool Mayor Ned Mannoun welcomed the announcement of the state government’s $195,954 investment through Create NSW’s Culture Up Late (Western Sydney).
The funding announcement was made by the Hon John Graham MLC, Special Minister of State, Minister for Roads, Minister for the Arts, Minister for Music and the Night-time Economy, and Minister for Jobs and Tourism.
Mayor Mannoun said the funding for free, night-time activations will draw more residents to Casula Powerhouse, while also providing employment opportunities for local musicians, artists, performers and suppliers.
“After-dark events at Casula Powerhouse provide a great opportunity to showcase the best of Liverpool in our own cultural precinct,” he said.
“Culture Up Late funding allows Council to continue delivering high-quality entertainment options for our residents following the success of this year’s Lanterns and Lights, Most Blessed Nights, Motherland African Festival and Winter Blast European Night Market.”
The exciting program will be delivered at Casula Powerhouse over a six-month period, with dates to be announced shortly. Events will include:
Five Casula Up Late events with different themes – The Sound of the South-West; South Asia X South West; NEXT (youth performers); Pacific Summer; and First Nations Culture Up Late. Casula Up Late will feature performances from L-Fresh the Lion and Matavai Pacific Cultural Arts.Three Dazzle After Dark events – These will bring performances, music and activities to the Casula Powerhouse Turbine Hall to make for a very different, cabaret-style take on the Culture Up Late experience. Visitors can expect pure entertainment from magicians, acrobats, singers and other surprises.Two Cultura Italiano Up Late events – Immersive Italian cultural evenings will bring film, live music, DJs, projections and interactive experiences together, transporting participants to Italy.An Xmas Artists & Makers Market – Local artists, craftspeople and other makers will show and sell their wares in early December at the perfect time for Xmas gifting, with local DJs and food trucks.Fright Night: Art After Dark and Ghostly Encounters – A unique opportunity for residents to embrace the mysterious and spooky side of Casula Powerhouse with ghost tours, projections, and horror/thriller screenings.Exhibitions After Dark – A deep dive into three new exhibitions by female artists with DJs, performance, talks and a film screening.Media contact: Nikita Karvounis 0412 063 873
