Have your say on Queensland Government’s draft ShapingSEQ 2023 Update

Redland City Council is encouraging the community to have its say on the Queensland Government’s plan for the future growth of south-east Queensland.

Mayor Karen Williams said it was important for residents, businesses and community groups to review the draft ShapingSEQ 2023 Update and provide feedback to the State Government.

“The draft Update, which will form the basis for the new SEQ regional plan, includes projections on population growth and where the State Government anticipates these extra people will live and work,” Cr Williams said.

“In relation to our city, the draft Update outlines new growth areas in the Redlands to accommodate an expected increase in population.

“It is vital that members of the Redlands Coast community provide feedback so they can be part of our city’s future in terms of how this growth and development will take shape.

“Council is undertaking its own review and a report will be presented at a future meeting of Council, at which time we will confirm our formal submission to the State Government.

“One of the areas we will be looking closely at is how the State Government will support any potential new growth areas outside the existing urban footprint through the funding and delivery of critical state infrastructure such as road upgrades, effective public transport, emergency services and schools.”

The Queensland Government’s public consultation on the Update will occur until 20 September 2023 and includes an in-person session at Capalaba Place Hall, 14 Noeleen Street, Capalaba on Tuesday 5 September from 11am-1pm. To register, visit the Queensland Government website.
