A modernised take on ‘The Wind in The Willows’ by RAVA Productions was brought to the Central Highlands thanks to a Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF).
Performances of the classic children’s story took place in Capella and Emerald.
The grant of $4,500 was used to provide public performances of the classic children’s story in Capella and Emerald. In addition, RAVA production also provided workshops for students of the Emerald Little Theatre.
The cast facilitated primary school workshops for Capella audiences and 3 after-school workshops in Emerald (primary school level, secondary school level, and adult level workshops).
Anna Farquhar, President of Emerald Little Threatre, commented on the benefits of the workshops.
‘Opportunities like this are amazing for rural communities,’ Ms Farquar said.
‘Our students would otherwise have to travel to Rockhampton, Mackay, or Brisbane to be involved insomething like this,’ she continued.
‘This can cost from a minimum of $250 to anywhere up to $2000, and the majority of that cost is travel and accommodation.’
MsFarquhar also mentioned of the importance that theatre and srts have on our community.
‘Sport and recreation are so widely available, but not all youth are interested in these activities or have the skills to be involved,’ she said.
‘Theatre and the arts industry allows people to express themselves in a creative and supportive environment,’ She continued.
‘It helps inboosting confidence, public speaking and creative thinking,
‘We are incredibly grateful of the opportunity to attend these workshops that council has generously helped with,’
