Celebrating Baw Baw’s over 60s with the Seniors Festival this October

Council invites the community to join in the Victorian Seniors Festival this October, as local organisations and businesses offer a variety of free and low-cost events and activities across Baw Baw Shire.  

Each October, the Victorian Seniors Festival celebrates community members aged 60 and over with activities that seeks to promotes ageing positively. 

In Baw Baw, this year’s festival includes range of activities that support active lifestyles, entertainment, and community connection. Here’s a preview of what’s planned:  

West Gippsland Arts Centre Shows including Frankie J Holden & Michelle Pettigrove starring in How Sweet It Is, and the Royal Australian Navy Band’s Last Night of the Proms.  Creative workshops including poetry reading, writers clubs and ‘Watercolour for Absolute Beginners’.  Physical activities including gym classes, ballroom dance lessons and golf croquet.  

“We’re thrilled to be offering such a fantastic wide variety of events and activities as part of our local Seniors Festival celebrations,” says Mayor of Baw Baw Shire Annemarie McCabe. 

“Details of each activity and event are listed in the Baw Baw Shire Local Event Guide, which can be collected for free from a lot of local outlets including Coles and Woolworths stores in Drouin and Warragul, West Gippsland Arts Centre, Warragul Library, and Council’s customer service centre in Drouin and Warragul.” 

“The range of events are designed to allow our over 60s community members to interact with one another and make new friends all while enjoying a fun activity or learning a new skill. Grab a copy of the guide at your nearest retailer and check out what’s on offer.”  

In addition to fun events, the Victorian Government is offering free public transport for seniors from Sunday 1 October to Sunday 8 October. All Victorian Seniors Card holders will be able to travel free of charge on all Melbourne trains, trams and buses and regional trains, coaches and buses including regional town bus services during this time.

The Victorian Seniors Festival is funded by the Victorian Government and rolled out by Local Governments across the state.
