Logan City Council’s efforts to support a greener future have gained national recognition.
Council won the Climate Champion Award at the Cities Power Partnership 2023 Climate Awards.
The award recognises the significant role Council played in leading and implementing a range of emission-reducing initiatives, which included achieving carbon-neutral certification earlier this year.
Initiatives included installing solar PV systems on Council libraries, aquatic and sports centres, introducing a kerbside green waste recycling bin collection service, generating electricity from gas captured at the Browns Plains Waste and Recycling Facility and implementing a green fleet strategy.
Logan City Council Mayor Darren Power said the award highlights the hard work that goes on behind the scenes in reducing city emissions.
“To be recognised as a Climate Champion is a credit to Council’s efforts towards protecting and enhancing the environment for future generations,” Councillor Power said.
“This recognition inspires us to continue to explore new ways to even further reduce our impact on the environment and tackle the challenges of climate change.”
The Climate Council’s Cities Power Partnership is Australia’s largest network of local councils leading the way to a zero emissions future.
