After a trial extension to the Albury Swim Centre 2022/23 Pool Season, AlburyCity has endorsed an ongoing extension to the season.
The Albury Swim Centre historically operates for seven months of the year, from mid-September to mid-April. During 2022 Council endorsed a trial for an extension to the swim season until 30 June 2023.
The purpose of the trial was to gauge the level of visitation, as well as operational matters such as the ability to maintain pool target temperatures and costs associated with operating the pool during cooler months.
From 24 April to 30 June 2023 a total of 3,407 visits were made to the centre, with an average visitation of 341 per week.
53% of the usage from Monday to Saturday occurred in the morning from 5.30am - 10am, and usage on a Sunday was half that of a weekday.
Due to the level of visitation and strong advocacy from the community, Council has endorsed an ongoing extension to the swim season of the Albury Swim Centre, with reduced operating hours in line with the trial data.
From mid-April to mid-September, the centre will be open as outlined below and will cost approximately $328,000 per year.
Monday to Friday: 6am - 11am and 3pm - 6pm Saturday: 7am - 12pm Sundays: Closed
AlburyCity Mayor Kylie King said “the trial data clearly showed that there are many in our community who value swimming even during the cooler months”.
“We have a number of members of our community who are strong advocates for year-round access to aquatic facilities to promote health and wellbeing,” Mayor King said.
“We are pleased to be able to now offer this extension on a yearly basis ensuring that these assets are available and more fully utilised by our community.”
The 2023/24 Pool Season begins in the coming weeks, with Albury opening on Monday 18 September, followed by Lavington on Monday 2 October 2023.
