Members of a border bike club feel safer riding once the sun goes down thanks to more than 250 solar power lights that brighten up the city's bike paths.
An additional eight lights have recently been installed along underpasses that link a network of existing cycle and walking pathways through greenblet areas, providing access between residential areas to community facilities, shopping centres, schools and for recreational use.
The solar power light project builds upon the existing infrastructure while increasing safety of bike users and pedestrians travelling through the underpasses, deterring graffiti, vandalism and destructive behaviour.
Albury Wodonga Pedal Power publicity officer Jo Lord, who has been a member of the club for a couple of years, said feedback around the club about the new lights had been postivie.
"As a club, we believe visibility is paramount for cyclists so that we can be safe," she said.
"We really appreciate the effort Wodonga Council has put into the bike paths."
While the bike club's rides take place during daylight hours, a number of club riders take to the paths in the evenings. Jo is encouraging people to give cycling a go.
"The club is a fantastic social outing for members each Saturday morning," she said.
"We ride from Wodonga one Saturday and from Albury the following Saturday and anyone is welcome to join us."
