The Central Coast Council wish to advise that the War Memorial clock will be stopped at 6pm on Saturday evening, 30 September for future repairs.
Whilst undertaking routine inspections in preparation for altering the time for Daylight Savings this weekend, it has been determined that the ladder that allows staff to change the time mechanism is no longer safe to use.
What an incredible job this iconic piece of engineering has done over its many years. It never ceases to amaze us how this ageing masterpiece continues to serve our community and remind us of times gone by, Mayor Cheryl Fuller said today. Council will always place safety first, and accordingly have decided it is better that the clock be stopped rather than chiming the wrong time.Staff will consider both short and long term solution options over the coming week and will restore the time as soon as we are able.
We thank the community for their understanding.
