A contractor appointed by Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) to deliver flood recovery works will occupy the Oakey TRC depot until the end of 2024 in a fantastic win for the local community.
Georgiou Group has been appointed by TRC to deliver flood reconstruction works across the northern part of the Toowoomba region and will base themselves out of the Oakey depot until works are complete.
TRC Infrastructure Services Group Chair Cr Carol Taylor said the use of the Oakey depot in this way was a tremendous win for Oakey and the surrounding district.
“While we are working with the community for future alternative uses of the Oakey depot, the use of the site by Georgiou Group in the meantime is a great outcome for the Oakey township.
“Georgiou Group will use the Oakey depot as their primary project office, stores and equipment depot while they deliver the northern flood reconstruction package for TRC. This will accommodate the project management personnel, and will support service crews, satellite offices and laydown areas to deliver the flood recovery works in the northern part of the region.”
“Occupancy of the site is expected to average 25 of Georgiou Group’s staff over the duration of the project which will provide an economic boost to the local Oakey community including hospitality, accommodation, and hardware.
“Our two flood reconstruction contractors have also been required by Council to develop a Local Industry Participation Plan including a targeted percentage of local industry participation in their works which is another fantastic win for the Toowoomba region,” Cr Taylor said.
Toowoomba Region’s flood recovery program is jointly funded by the Australian and Queensland governments under the Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements.
