Upgrades to the Waterfall Gardens at Toowoomba’s Picnic Point Parklands are scheduled to start in October.
Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) recently awarded the contract for the upgrade works to The Landscape Construction Company (TLCC).
TRC Environment and Community Services committee portfolio leader Cr Tim McMahon said the Waterfall Gardens upgrade was one of the final components to be completed under the Toowoomba Escarpment Park Upgrade (TEPU) package.
“Upgrades to the escarpment parks aim to unlock the potential of nature-based, outdoor recreation facilities and increase sports tourism opportunities,” Cr McMahon said.
“The Waterfall Gardens is iconic to the Toowoomba landscape and this upgrade is the icing on the cake.
“The $600,000 project will provide better accessibility to recreational areas and facilities and improve connectivity.
“A new footpath will be installed, maintenance access from Tourist Road will be formalised, sub-tropical gardens will be upgraded, and the gazebo, pictured, and waterfall setting will be restored.
“The Waterfall Gardens upgrade project will start in October and be completed in December 2023, weather permitting.
“The rest of the Picnic Point Parklands will remain open; we just ask that park users refrain from entering the Waterfall Gardens area during the various upgrades.”
The total funding package for the $7.4 million Toowoomba Escarpment Parks Upgrade project includes $4.46 million from Toowoomba Regional Council, $2.71 million from the Queensland Government through its Building Our Regions program, and $218,000 from Lockyer Valley Regional Council.
