City of Rockingham residents are encouraged to nominate a group or individual that has made the community a better place as part of the 2024 Community Citizen of the Year Awards.

The awards celebrate the organisations and people who have made an exemplary contribution to the community during the current year and/or those who have given notable service over an extended period of time. The awards will be presented on Saturday 27 January 2024.

Four categories are available including Community Citizen of the Year, Young Community Citizen of the Year (under 25 years of age), Senior Community Citizen of the Year (over 65 years of age) and Active Citizenship – Group or Event.

Earlier this year Claire Willans won the Community Citizen of the Year Award for her advocacy and support in the mental health sector. Laurie Smith OAM, who is also a Freeman of the City, won the Senior Community Citizen of the Year Award for his sustained contribution to several community organisations.

Luke Tammen and Lily Tyler shared the Young Community Citizen of the Year Award for their work with the Baldivis Leo’s and Rockingham Youth Centre respectively, while much loved not-for-profit organisation Team Fred won the Active Citizenship Award for the support it provides to families with children who are battling serious illnesses.

City of Rockingham Mayor Deb Hamblin encourages community members to nominate deserving individuals and groups for the upcoming Awards

“There are a number of people and organisations across the City who put in a tremendous amount of work to make our community a better place, and often this work is done with little to no recognition,” Mayor Hamblin said.

These people are the heartbeat of our City and the Community Citizen of the Year Awards are an excellent opportunity to highlight their fabulous efforts.

Nominations for the 2024 Community Citizen of the Year Awards close on Tuesday 31 October 2023. For more information or to nominate visit Citizenship Awards.
