A public electric vehicle (EV) charging station has been installed in Benalla’s Denny Street carpark.
Featuring two parallel accessible parking bays, the 50kw Evie Networks EV charging station supports CHAdemo and CCS Type 2 DC connectors, catering for most EV vehicles on the road.
Benalla Rural City Council Mayor Bernie Hearn said the charging station provided fast and reliable EV charging for residents and people visiting or passing through Benalla.
“Providing vehicle charging for residents and visitors is important for tourism while being convenient for locals,” Cr Hearn said.
“The charging station is located in the heart of Benalla’s CBD situated close to cafes, public restrooms and retail outlets. This will provide an indirect financial benefit to the local economy.
“As a Council we support the transition towards cleaner and more climate-friendly forms of transport and have agreed to lease these car parking spaces to Evie Networks while also negotiating a separate charging station with Tesla,” Cr Hearn said.
The installation of this charger is in line with Council’s commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
