Nominations open for 2024 Fremantle Citizen of the Year Awards
City of Fremantle 11 Oct 2023

Calling all Fremantle residents - nominations are now open for the 2024 Community Citizen of the Year Awards!

The Awards, organised by the City of Fremantle, are a great opportunity to recognise individuals and organisations who are making a notable contribution during the current year, or those who have given outstanding service over a number of years.

As such, the City is encouraging all residents to acknowledge their local heroes by nominating them for the 2024 Community Citizen of the Year Awards.

The Awards are made up of four categories: Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year (65 years and over), Young Citizen of the Year (under 30 years) and the Active Citizenship Award (community group or event).

The recognition in outstanding contribution and community service encompasses a multitude of areas such as education, health, fundraising, charitable and voluntary services, business, sport, arts, the environment, social inclusion or any other area that enhances community wellbeing.

Fremantle Mayor Hannah Fitzhardinge said the awards presented a great opportunity to provide recognition to our local champions, who play an important role in enacting positive change in the community.

"There are so many people in our community who work tirelessly to make Fremantle a better place," Mayor Fitzhardinge said.

"If you know someone who has made a positive contribution, then nominate them for the Community Citizen of the Year Awards."

The 2023 Fremantle Citizen of the Year was Leighton Bradfield, co-founder of 20talk, a charity that offers youth-focused mental health support.

Fremantle’s Senior Citizen of the Year was Diane Brennan who has given more than 50 years of service to John Curtin College of the Arts as a drama tutor, adjudicator and speech coach, while the Young Citizen of the Year was Talei Williams for her work in aboriginal education.

The Active Citizen of the Year (Event) was awarded to Kidogo Arthouse’s artist and director Joanna Robertson for the Hand in Hand – Kidogo Irish Aboriginal Festival, while the Active Citizen of the Year (Group) was awarded to Friends of Cantonment Hill.

The 2024 Community Citizen of the Year nominations close on Tuesday 31 October.
