Get ready for the sale of the year – Second Hand Saturday is almost here

Who doesn’t love a garage sale?

It’s time to start getting excited about Second-hand Saturday; the biggest day of garage sales in Byron Shire and across the Northern Rivers.

Second-hand Saturday is on 4 November 2023 so keen garage sale goers should mark the day on the calendar.

People wanting to hold a garage sale have until the 25 October to register and ensure their listing appears in local media and online for free.

Organised by North East Waste, in conjunction with regional Councils, Second-hand Saturday offers benefits to buyers and sellers.

“Holding a garage sale is a great way to declutter, make some extra cash and give items we no longer need a second chance to be used again,” Linda Tohver, Coordinator of Second-hand Saturday, said.

“If you’ve started your spring clean and uncovered items that haven’t seen the light of day for a long time then sign-up to hold a garage sale on 4 November and have your listing published for free,” Ms Tohver said.

Zoe White, Byron Shire Council’s Resource Recovery Education and Compliance Officer, said Second-hand Saturday is a terrific opportunity to embrace recycling and meet lots of new people.

“Second-hand Saturday is a very social time, especially in the Byron Shire, and many community and school groups use it to raise money,” Ms White said.

People can register for Second-hand Saturday on Council’s website.

The closing date for registration is 25 October 2023.
