Resilience in Recovery is led by Council’s Flood Recovery team, with the program providing a range of inclusive events to create greater resilience and encourage the community to become more capable and connected.
A Resilience in Recovery Facebook page has been launched as a place for community members to receive updates, information on upcoming events, recovery content and valuable resources, which forms part of the ongoing and collective effort to build more resilient communities in recovery.
A schedule of free community events has been curated for the coming weeks, with the list expected to grow over the next few months. Upcoming events include:
100 cuppas - Weekly community support drop-in sessions. Held every Tuesday during the month of October, with two sessions held each week – one at the Shepparton Senior Citizens Centre and one at a Taste of Capri in Mooroopna. Sophie Thomson: Gardening after floods – Thursday 19 October 2023 Warren Davies: The Unbreakable Farmer – Sessions in Undera, Murchison and Tallygaroopna on 23, 24 and 25 October 2023. An evening with Dr Rob Gordon – Thursday 2 November 2023.Council’s Manager Flood Recovery, Carla Dixon, said the team were looking forward to getting out in the community, talking with residents and continuing the recovery work which had already been done over the past 12 months.
“Recovery is a journey that often spans years and these events are only the beginning of this journey. The Greater Shepparton community has been through a lot over the past 12 months and while we are now a year on, the work doesn’t stop,” she said.
“Resilience in Recovery is a space for people to connect and support one another, and it provides somewhere for people to have the conversations which they may not feel comfortable to have.
“In the face of adversity, the whole of Greater Shepparton steps up and we saw this over the past 12 months. This has proven how strong we all are and Resilience in Recovery is here to support this moving forward.”
