Green Fair on the Square returns on Saturday, 21 October, bringing environmental awareness, sustainability education and family-friendly activities to Albany.
Embracing the theme ‘Sustainability in your own backyard’ for 2023, the annual eco festival will be held at the Albany Town Square from 9.30am to 1.30pm.
Headlining this year’s festivities is Sabrina Hahn, the ‘Hort with Heart’, who will share her wealth of gardening wisdom and passion for sustainability in a captivating talk and interactive Q&A session.
Festivalgoers can also learn more about sustainable livestock through an engaging encounter with miniature milking goats, showcasing the possibilities for sustainable at-home food production.
Local performers from Playlist Choir and Just Fiddling will entertain crowds from the Town Square Stage from 10am to 12pm, followed by an unmissable miniature goat fashion parade at 12.45pm.
Visitors can take part in hands-on activities, including unique nature crafts such as botanical drawing, leaf and gumnut painting, and joining a community weaving project using upcycled textiles.
Coinciding with Bike Month, the Green Fair on the Square will also feature the Community Bike Chat as part of the Sustainable Transport stall, offering free bike safety checks as well as a free coffee voucher for anyone who cycles to the event.
Green Services experts Rob and Brenda will be available to provide insights and advice on reducing home energy and water consumption, as well as an exclusive offer to perform a Home Eco Audit with a generous 50% subsidy from the City of Albany.
Additionally, Form Forests & Environment will host a Native Plant Sale, Electric Vehicles will be on display, and residents can swap their old shower head for a new one by showing their latest water bill.
City of Albany Chief Executive Officer Andrew Sharpe thanked the community for their support of the sustainability festival.
“Green Fair on the Square is a testament to Albany’s shared commitment to protecting our environment and improving both our individual and collective approach to sustainability,” he said.
“The festival has evolved into an important platform for people to come together and share knowledge, form connections and inspire change throughout our community.”
