One of the City of Rockingham’s most popular community events, the annual Teddy Bears’ Picnic, will return to Fantasy Park in Waikiki on Wednesday 25 October 2023.
The free event will run from 9.30am – 12pm and is delivered through a partnership between the City and the Rockingham Early Years Group.
The Teddy Bears’ Picnic gives families with children under the age of five the chance to enjoy a day that is filled with free entertainment that is age appropriate. This year’s event will feature several activities including face painting, an animal farm, games and live stage performances. Stage entertainment features a Welcome to Country at 10am, sing along and story time at 10.10am, followed by a performance from Gina Williams and Guy Ghouse at 10.30am.
Visitors will be able to speak directly with local early years’ service providers, and also join in a birthday celebration for the Paint Rockingham REaD mascot, Widi (which is the local mascot for the Paint the Town REaD national literacy program).
Auslan Interpreters and a sensory space for those who need to take a break from all the fun and noise have been organised. In addition, the City will be undertaking community consultation during the event to inform the next Strategy for Early Years, Children and Young People 2024 – 2030.
City of Rockingham Mayor Deb Hamblin encouraged community members to pack a picnic and head down to Fantasy Park to join in the fun.
“Over the years the annual Teddy Bears’ Picnic has become one of the City’s most popular events for families,” Mayor Hamblin said.
The event gives children a chance to learn new skills through play while parents can build connections with local service providers in a relaxed and positive setting.“The Strategy for Early Years, Children and Young People will guide the City in its focus and support of the sector over the next seven years, and I would like to encourage all families to participate in the upcoming consultation.
"Make sure you come and see our friendly volunteers, let us know what your priorities are, and complete a survey to go into a draw for the chance to win a $100 gift card.”
