The City of Fremantle is putting out the call for 18 to 30 year-olds who want to drive positive change in their community, to be part of a new youth leadership program.
ChangeMakers is designed to empower young leaders with the knowledge and skills to drive positive social change – from lobbying different levels of government, to campaigning for change at a community level.
The City is looking for ten people who have a meaningful connection to Fremantle, and have a cause or an idea that they want to progress.
Fremantle Mayor Hannah Fitzhardinge said the goal of the program was to create more informed and connected young citizens.
"As Mayor, I'm fortunate to often meet passionate people who want to make a positive difference in their community. Through this program, I hope we can empower the younger generation of leaders and give them the tools and strategies to bring about social change in an effective way," Mayor Fitzhardinge said.
This six-month program, from November 2023 to April 2024, will enable participants to explore the variety of ways in which to facilitate change.
Weekly mentor meetings will cover topics such as how to engage with government, and how to develop successful techniques to progress their strategic objectives.
Participants will have access to guest speakers and experts in relevant fields who will share their knowledge and experience.
Additionally, participants will be given the opportunity to take part in paid consultations with the City on matters they are passionate about.
"The advocacy provided by this group of young people will lead to direct input into City of Fremantle policies and plans," Mayor Fitzhardinge said.
To be considered for selection, applicants must be aged between 18 and 30 years old, and be able to provide examples of initiatives, campaigns or events they’ve been part of, or are inspired by.
