Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery at 531 Ruthven Street, Toowoomba, is closing temporarily to allow contractors to replace parquetry flooring and carpet that was damaged during a severe hail storm that passed over the building and a section of the CBD in January 2022.

Toowoomba Regional Council Library and Cultural Services portfolio leader Cr Tim McMahon said the Gallery would close from 3.30pm on Sunday, October 22, 2023 and re-open in early 2024.

Cr McMahon said the work to replace the Gallery’s flooring could proceed following the finalisation of insurance negotiations.

“While Council regrets the inconvenience to our valuable visitors, our exhibiting artists and creative organisation partners, we are pleased to finally be in a position to undertake the replacement of the Gallery’s parquetry floor and carpet,” Cr McMahon said.

“Council’s Gallery team can still be contacted during office hours for the duration of the closure; however, the collection items will not be accessible until the early 2024 re-opening.

“All artworks from the various Collections held at the Gallery have been stored safely in preparation for the works.

“Our regular exhibition schedule and associated programs are continuing at the Crows Nest Gallery and Goombungee’s Rosalie Gallery.”
