Volunteering is a passion that never ceases for Pittsworth’s Lyndall Madden, who today (Friday, October 20, 2023) was honoured for 40 years’ active volunteering – and counting – mainly in her home community.
Lyndall joined 46 fellow Council-associated volunteers at today’s recognition of service function at The Annex in Toowoomba.
“The rewards of volunteering are far greater than the effort. It is no effort if you love what you do and helping people,” Lyndall said.
“I certainly don’t look for accolades and saw the example of my father and other family members who have been involved in many community organisations.”
In addition to Lyndall’s 40-year service milestone (covering associations with the Regional Arts Development Fund, the Pittsworth Visitor Information Centre and Pittsworth Pioneer Historical Village, among other community organisations, like the Leukaemia Foundation), Geoff Lawson (Crows Nest Gallery, Hampton Visitor Information Centre) and Val Stevens (Toowoomba Regional Art Gallery) were recognised for reaching 25-year service marks.
Irene Taylor and June Coward were congratulated for attaining their 20-year service awards with the Hampton Visitor Information Centre.
Toowoomba Region Mayor Geoff McDonald and fellow Councillors led the tributes for the 47 volunteers who were marking 20 years of service or more with Council-run activities or services.
“Volunteers are our bearers of goodwill across the Region,” Mayor McDonald enthused.
“The 47 volunteers recognised today have recorded an incredible 444 years of service to the communities across our Region.
“Volunteers make a viral contribution to the wellbeing of individuals and their respective communities.
“Everyone one of today’s service award recipients is an indispensable part of our service delivery. The same goes for our full complement of approximately 600 Council-managed volunteers across 40 programs.
“We are extremely grateful to every volunteer for the friendly and dependable service they offer across our organisation.
“Today’s function is a chance to turn the attention on our volunteers and thank them for the tremendous commitment they display and pride they take in serving the wider Region.
“Everyone here today can be justifiably proud of their service achievements.”
