The Town of Cambridge will inaugurate a new Mayor and five Councillors following Saturday’s 2023 Ordinary Local Government Election.
Mayor-Elect Gary Mack will be officially sworn in at a 24 October ceremony.
Mayor Mack has been a Wembley Ward Councillor since October 2019 and has served on the Town’s Development and Audit and Risk Committees. He is an experienced lawyer and mediator by profession.
Conducted by the Western Australian Electoral Commission (WAEC) on 21 October, the 2023 Election holds historical significance for Cambridge as the first time in-person and optional preferential voting were introduced.
Cr Georgie Randklev has been re-elected to continue representing the Coast Ward, alongside newly elected Cr Michael Le Page. Cr Kate Barlow has also secured re-election to represent the Wembley Ward, and she will be joined by Cr Susan Kennerly, the newly elected member. These four individuals are committed to serving our community for the next four years.
Additionally, Cr Gavin Foley will serve the remaining two years of Mayor Mack's term in the Wembley Ward seat.
A total of 5,334 electors cast their votes, a 25.91% participation rate, demonstrating the strong commitment of the Town’s community to shaping Cambridge’s future.
Gary Tuffin, Town of Cambridge Chief Executive Officer, congratulated the successful candidates anticipating their positive contributions to the Town's growth and development.
“The Town is pleased to welcome each of you to the Town of Cambridge Council, and I look forward to collaborating with you all to create a brighter and more vibrant future for our community,” Mr Tuffin said.
“Together, we will continue to make Cambridge a wonderful place to live, work, and enjoy.
“We are confident the three newly elected officials will bring fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and unwavering commitment to our community. Their service will be invaluable in ensuring the wellbeing and success of Cambridge.
The Town acknowledges the WAEC for overseeing a fair and transparent election process.
“We thank outgoing elected members Keri Shannon and Meg Anklesaria for their commitment and service to the Town over recent years, and Alaine Haddon-Casey who chose not to renominate,” Mr Tuffin said.
“We also thank our community for its active participation and support throughout the election.”
