At its October meeting in Apollo Bay, Council decided to pause the sale of the former Kindergarten site in McLachlan Street to allow for further community input.
Council is providing the community with a further opportunity to put forward ideas about how the former kindergarten site may be used if it is not sold.
Councillors and officers met with community members at the site on Wednesday prior to the Council meeting.
Chief Executive Officer Anne Howard said Council understood the intense interest in the proposed sale of the property and welcomed the representations from the large group of interested locals at the Council meeting.
“Council has taken a position to sell the property to recoup money invested into the new Early Years Hub, but we have provided more time for the community to identify their preferred use of the site,” Ms Howard said.
“To date we have had a vast array of uses suggested for the site and we have asked for clarity of what alternative we are to consider against the current intention, which is to sell the site and to reinvest surplus funds back into the community.”
Council will consider the community’s views at its Council meeting scheduled for December 13.
Ideas need to put in writing and should be clearly marked as “Community ideas for 69 McLachlan St, Apollo Bay (former kindergarten)” and can be submitted in a variety of ways:
